Worldwide Exclusive Alert: Today we are very pleased to be the first wine merchant to feature the delicious 2010 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir from one of our long-time favorite producers, David Noyes Wines.
We’ve been friends with David for more than 6 years now and we have had the great fortune to be the ones to release his wine to the world.
Today’s wine is a food-friendly Pinot with intriguing flavors and wonderful aromatics. Youthful and bright, this wine is drinking very well, now. We’ll be holding onto a few bottles for the next couple of years as we think that the wine will continue to evolve.
Enjoy outdoors in bright sunlight as the color of the wine is just gorgeous. Decant for best results.
Pair with a duck and fig salad, a pork tenderloin or prosciutto wrapped dates.
Lovely dark ruby with evenly concentrated color from rim to core. Tall, widely-spaced legs fall slowly down the glass.
Beautiful and plump with an exciting and unique floral earl grey black tea, black cherry, dried blackberry, dried fall leaves, tomato stem, subtle cracked pepper. As the wine opens, it reveals subtle cherry-rhubarb pie.
Shy at first, swirl or decant for best results. Dark dried cherry, dried blackberry, black tea and stewed plum. Rubarb, cherry cola and dried leaves follow.
The more savory flavors linger for a long time. Atthe tip of the tongue a soft dryness forms and introduces a sublte chewiness.

“The nose opens with multiple aromas of ripe raspberries, fresh baked bread, green and black teas, along with more subtle elements of earth, dried flowers, smoke and iodine. In the mouth raspberry fruit dominates an equally complex mix of flavors, showcased by a classic pinot texture, both rich and lively. Quite a mouthful!”
This year all my Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir came from the Crane vineyards, both vineyards located in the Sonoma Coast, at the base of Crane Canyon, where they benefit from the cool breezes that come down, every evening, from Bodega Bay through the Petaluma Gap. The Cranes farm about 15 acres of pinot, split into some 10 blocks, divided by clone, soil and location, including three Dijon and two Italian ‘Pinot Nero’ cultivars.
I would characterize the Dijon clones as providing both intense raspberry fruit and great mid-palate richness while the Pinot Nero clones show a delightful wild berry character, darker color and bright acidity. Together they make a delicious wine.
Food Pairing: Coq au vin, (mushrooms and bacon), or for a vegetarian match: lentils, mushrooms and kale, Manchego with almonds.

Aging: New and seasoned French oak barrels.

About the Winery
I founded David Noyes Wines to fulfill my life-long dream to provide wines that connect us to the natural world, to winemaking traditions, and that provide tangible expressions of the mysteries of time, place and transformative experience. More specifically, (and less poetically), my wines provide unique expressions of Pinot Noir and other varietals from selected Sonoma County vineyards. My winemaking techniques are selected to minimize handling and maximize the individuality, flavor and balance of each lot.
My wines are meant to accompany food; neither wine nor food need overpower the palate to provide an overwhelming experience! The aim is for a ‘rich, balanced style’, full-flavored wines that express the best of our California fruit, yet do not overwhelm with alcohol, extract or oak. I find such wines offer more individual expression, better pairings with food and more personality.
Winemaker David Noyes
Since 1970, winemaker David Noyes has made fine wines, all around the world, and for some incredible wineries in Monterey, Mendocino, Livermore, France and the Sonoma Valley. Early in his career, David made wine at Ridge Vineyards, beginning in 1970, and helped to create Kunde Estate Winery in 1989.
In 2001 David launched his own label and in 2006 left Kunde to devote his time to that venture. Today, as then, David is especially well-known for his delicious Zinfandels and Pinot Noirs.
