2009 Reserve Merlot
California: Oak Knoll District (Napa)
We’ll cut to the chase here, by telling you that today’s Merlot is the finest that we have tasted in at least six months. That’s saying a great deal, because we have showcased some rather remarkable examples.
Today’s single vineyard 2009 Vitus Wines Reserve Merlot is nothing short of incredible and we offer it up with our heartiest recommendation.
With better structure and more fruit than most Merlots, this wine is delicious and elegant - and worth every penny. And then some! In fact, today’s wine is such a screaming deal that we suggest that you stock up.
Beautiful deep, dark ruby with an opaque heart. The wine maintains evenly concentrated color until the very edge, where lighter ruby catches the light.
Brilliantly balanced between dusty earth and bold fruit, this wine exudes dark black cherry, plum, dried blueberry and blackberry, balanced against dried fall leaves, dusty bramble and rose Pelargonium leaf.
Mouth puckering and chewy, with loads of dark fruit, including black cherry, dried plum, blackberry and dried dark cranberry. These are balanced against dusty bramble, black tea leaf, nutmeg and clove.
Long and well-structured, with dusty tannins that give this wine a very classical Merlot finish
Pair this gorgeous Merlot with a classic filet Mignon with a loaded, twice baked, stuffed potato. Beef kabobs with red bell pepper and red onions.

About the Winery
The name Vitus, comes from the word ‘viticulture,’ meaning the study of wine. We have adopted the patron St. Vitus to bless our good fortune and our wine. St. Vitus symbolizes good fortune, great wine and a gladdened heart. Vitus started as a mere passion by the Hearn Family and their friends in the Solano County area. Winemaker, John Gilpin, whom has a knack for blending, is excited to bring this exclusive wine to market.
