Mission Briefing

Codename:

The Promise of Youth

Today’s 2011 Rancho Sisquoc Pinot Noir is a lively, youthful wine that shows vibrant fruit and a silky mouth feel that we found delightful.

As the wine breathes in the glass - or after some extended decanting - it settles in and softens, revealing more subtlety and an even more easygoing feel.

With plenty of bright fruit, this wine is an easy pairing companion for many foods. Enjoy a few bottles now, but please hold several bottles back for a year or more to see just how well this wine evolves. We can’t wait.

Tasting Profile

Look:

Deep and rich, with striking crimson hues from heart to edge.

Smell:

On the nose, this wine is shy at first. As it opens, it unravels delightful aromas of cherry, leafy bramble, sweet dried sage, supple leather, alpine strawberry and cherry pie.

Taste:

Well-balanced fruit, with bright red cherry, early raspberry, early strawberry, and plum skin with hints of earthen components and subtle spice.

Finish:

Long and bright, with plentiful red fruit that makes the mouth water at the very end.

Pairing:

Enjoy this wine with a cherry reduction pork loin with a mango salsa.

What the Winery Says

The Winery Located on the Foxen Canyon Wine trail in Santa Barbara County, California, the winery is part of a 38,000 acre ranch. Rancho Sisquoc Winery is proud to have been hand crafting wines since 1972.

The Vineyard Our vineyard is comprised of over 300 acres planted on south facing slopes on the Sisquoc River. Unique microclimates allow us to grow several varieties, and to produce grapes that offer distinct flavor and quality.

The Philosophy Our winemaking philosophy is a simple one: We create high quality wines in limited quantities, and offer them at a reasonable price.

Winemaker’s Notes Deep ruby in color with a smooth nose full of strawberry, this Pinot is true to it’s terroir of the Santa Maria Valley. Moderate in viscosity with a great balance of silky texture and fruit forward intensity. Submissive tannins lend for a smooth and supple finish.
