Rios de Chile
2009 Gran Reserva Syrah
Chile: Cachapoal Valley
Today’s Rios de Chile Wine 2009 Gran Reserva Syrah is a Chilean wine and Syrah lover’s dream. This wine is a delicious, easy-drinking, complex wine that will have Syrah lovers doing a little jig. Especially when you consider the low price of this wine.
This Syrah is wonderfully aromatic and layered with fruit, spice and earthen flavors. Our tasting panel really loved this wine and we offer it to you with our very hearty recommendation.
Please note: We purchased every bottle that we could get our hands on for you, but don’t expect this wine to be around for very long. Once we’ve sold out, you’ll never see this wine again.
A beautiful dark magenta at its core, with a glint of red ruby at the edge.
Wonderfully light on the nose, with clear herbal notes of rosemary and sage mingling with fresh cherry, sweet plum, cedarwood, clove, black peppercorn, and sweet vanilla bean.
Well balanced and positively delicious, with cherry, strawberry, and boysenberry compote laid atop sweet tobacco leaf, slight earthy mushroom, mint leaf, thyme, dark chocolate, and a lean minerality.
This cool climate Syrah has a lengthy and well structured finish, with integrated tannins and an acidity that almost pops on your tongue.
A cider-braised pork shoulder served atop caramelized sweet onions.
What the Winery Says
Very intense purplish red color. Aromas of red fruits, spices, cassis, and leather. Full-bodied on the palate, with an interesting marriage of fruit and wood, it is a very complex wine. Long finish and great persistance.
98 Points - Master Sommelier Catherine Fallis With inviting aromas of ripe cherry, freshly cracked black peppercorns, white mushroom, squash blossom and vanilla, a richly textured, layered palate with a starburst of fruit and floral notes in the middle, very fine, integrated tannins, and a long flavorful finish, this New World Syrah is more in line with a French Cote Rotie than an Aussie Shiraz. The fruit is gorgeous, the wine is supple, and yet there is a sense of restraint and finesse.
91 Points and Editor’s Choice Review - Wine Enthusiast Opens with sensational aromas that span plum, berry and chocolate. Feels compact yet juicy, with a lot of depth and purity. Wild berry, mint and bacon-like flavors work the palate, while the finish is defined by tannins, woody spice and natural body. A smooth bruiser to enjoy with venison or steak.

About the Winery
Rios de Chile’s philosphy regarding handling of the grapes is to try to achieve maximum balance on each vine, always looking for the quality and identity of the wines. It is, then, a true reflection of the Cachapoal Valley’s diverse terroir, home to most of our estate vineyards and 30 minutes from both 6,000 feet elevations and the ocean.
