We are so lucky to have access to the wines of Rudy von Strasser! Today’s von Strasser Winery 2010 Rudy Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a must-have wine that, given its low price, makes a great daily drinker.

This delicious, food-friendly wine is a real treat, delivering a juicy, flavor-filled Napa Cab experience - for a fraction of the average Napa Cab price.

The 2010 vintage has rocketed to the forefront for Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, having earned some of the highest praise that we’ve seen for any vintage in recent memory.

Wine Spectator says, _“While vintners acknowledged the challenges of 2010, it turned out far better than anyone imagined, making it the best vintage yet of the 21st century, if ever so slightly. I rate the Napa’s 2010 vintage at 98 points on Wine Spectator’s 100-point scale, extending a hit parade of outstanding harvests that began with 2004, including five years that rate a classic 95 points or higher. There’s never been a better time to be a lover of California Cabernet Sauvignon, a category undeniably powered by the performance of Napa Valley wines. Don’t let the higher prices for some wines scare you off. There are scores of excellent wines in the $60-and-below range.”

Of the 2010 vintage, Antonio Galloni declared, “2010 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon: An Epic Vintage…The 2010s are magnificent, viscerally thrilling wines loaded with character and personality!”

We say, 2010 Napa Cabernet Sauvignon is Spy-worthy - and very highly recommended!!

A classic red wine pairing of slowly braised beef stew served with plenty of golden potatoes, carrots, and pearl onions.

What the Winery Says

Think of this wine as our entry-level Cabernet Sauvignon. Just don’t think of it as a typical entry-level Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is so much more. For those wine drinkers that have never sampled our award-winning Mountain Cabernet, this is the perfect wine by which to get to know us.

This approachable wine is blend of our five single vineyards all within the Napa Valley. The wine offers a softer, refined style that is framed its fruit forward nature. Right out of the bottle, the fragrant nose is pleasing and inviting. Layered with dark fruit of blueberry and blackberry, the wine leads to fig, cassis and pie spice. Finishes off with supple tannins to enjoy now or up to 10 years.

About the Winery

Rudy’s winemaking philosophy centers on the concept that great wines are created in the vineyard and not in the winery. His most important winemaking tool is his palate: his ability to understand and analyze each vineyard’s wine potential through the tasting of the grapes. All of the grapes used in the von Strasser label are picked at their optimum ripeness when the flavors are peaking and the tannins have become ripe and soft. Based on these harvest decisions, the correct combination of fermentation and winemaking techniques (including cold soaking, fermentation temperatures, extended maceration, aeration, and an aggressive barrel program) are employed to maximize each vineyard’s potential. The end result is wine of great extract and a tannin complex which is both huge and soft at the same time. The resultant mouth feel is often described as being “chewy”, and makes these hillside wines both approachable when young, yet also worthy of further development with age.
