Mission Briefing

Codename:

Cin City

Today’s wine left our tasting panel a little speechless. While we taste many fantastic wines, today’s Onesta Wines 2012 Bechthold Vineyard Rose showed depth and character that put it another realm entirely from the typical Rosé. We love it when a wine exceeds our expectations, and, boy, did today’s wine accomplish that!

After one sip, we were convinced we had a super high-end wine from Provence. We were surprised to learn that today’s gem comes from the famed Bechtold Vineyard in Lodi. Light and refreshing, with a firm mouthfeel and solid body, today’s wine hits all the high notes.

Winemaker Jillian Johnson has created quite the stunner with today’s wine. Prepare to have your mind blown!

Tasting Profile

Look:

An incredibly beautiful salmon pink, with a near copper glint throughout the glass.

Smell:

Very delicate and perfumed, with not-quite-sweetened strawberry, apricot, and grapefruit zest quickly followed by white flower notes, dried rose petals, and a touch of oaky spice.

Taste:

Distinctly elegant on the palate, with an almost Provencal quality, this lush wine is highlighted by strawberry, pineapple, and mango laid overtop hints of lavender and subtle sweet spice. Absolutely delicious.

Finish:

Crisp and refreshing, with a wonderful body and mouthfeel, this wine is downright silky on the finish.

Pairing:

Light and zesty crab salad.

What the Winery Says

100% Cinsault from the famous Bechthold vineyard, the oldest vineyard in the Lodi region, planted in 1886. The Rosé is produced from 50% saignée and 50% fruit harvested just for Rosé. A small portion fermented in very neutral oak yields a creamy texture. This delicately pink wine is bursting with strawberry guava-like fruit, with faint suggestions of drippy white peach; bone dry, yet soft, lush, creamy, almost voluptuously textured in the mouth. Sip all night with or without food.

92 Point Review - Wine Enthusiast Onesta is Jillian Johnson’s debut of her own wines; she previously made Cinsault-based reds and rosés for the Phoenix Ranch brand. She is not new, however, to the indelible Bechthold Vineyard and its ancient Cinsault grapes, and her passion and expertise with the site shows gorgeously here. Orange-pink in hue, this beauty shares notes of crushed strawberry that are perfectly in balance with its dry, elegant point-of-view. Sip this one all night long, with food or without.
