This is it
Today’s 2007 Lazare Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon marks the TWS debut for Sineann Winery. Based in Newberg, Oregon, winemaker Peter Rosback was curious to see what he could do with grapes grown in the world renowned Napa Valley. Well, Operatives, have we got a treat for you today.
Sineann is Gaelic for “this is it,” and, wow, THIS is it! Today’s wine is incredibly lush, with layer upon layer of fruit, terroir, and spice to explore. First a touch of blackberry and sweet plum, then hints of sweet tobacco and sandalwood, and, finally, notes of dried flower petals greet you at the very end of the finish.
Deepest, darkest scarlet in the center of the glass.
Bold and richly layered aromas leap from the glass, with dark cherry and blackberry mingling with sweet tobacco leaf, freshly tilled earth, dark baking spices, dried rosemary and sage, and a lovely pop of potpourri.
Deliciously well balanced, with flavors that fulfill on the promise of the nose. Deep dark fruit of sweet plum, boysenberry, and black cherry lay overtop sweet leather, espresso bean, clove, anise, sage, rosemary, and a touch of herbal black tea.
Soft, supple, and right at its peak, today’s wine is drinking beautifully, with firm structure and a lovely note of acidity in the finish.
A slow roasted duck breast, sprinkled with Chinese 5-spice and finished with a dried plum balsamic reduction.
What the Winery Says
Imagine our good fortune the day Amanda Lazare walked into our winery. One day we’re happily making wines from the Pacific Northwest, the next, we’re making Napa Valley Cabernet. We’ve heard that the Napa Valley is a world class wine producing region. There’s nothing like testing to see if certain stated propositions are true. So, here we go.
The vineyard is a two acre plot in the Oak Knoll district of the Napa Valley. It is young, very well managed. (Believe it or not, many vineyards are not in the Valley.) We cropped down to 2 tons per acre in 2006, trying to find out how concentrated we could make a Cabernet. Well, the wine turned out very concentrated! It is very, very dark, has big, sweet fruit and abundant ripe, supple tannins. This is one terrific wine! It compares very well to other highly regarded (and much more expensive) Napa Cabs.
We’re very pleased and plan to make many more Cabs off this vineyard!

About the Winery
Sineann is a small producer of highly intense wines made from the finest grapes from the finest vineyards in the region. Almost all our wines are single-vineyard designated, with low crop levels to ensure that the best characteristics of the varietal and terroir shine through. Our meticulous approach to winemaking - minimal processing, aging in French oak - helps us preserve the character of each wine we create. The result are wines that both we and our growers take great pride in.
The bottom line is, we strive to make great wine - the only kind of wine that makes it onto our dinner table. We believe that food and drink, lovingly prepared, make for happier and healthier people.
