2008 Paso Robles Syrée Red Wine
California: Paso Robles
We always love a good surprise at our tasting panel, and today’s Vina Robles 2008 Paso Robles Syrée Red Wine certainly fit the bill. We weren’t expecting too much from today’s Paso Syrah-blend, but wow, did we stumble upon a winner.
A heady blend of 82% Syrah and 18% Petite Sirah, today’s wine is bold, rich, and wonderfully flavorful. Loaded with juicy berry and spicy black peppercorn, today’s wine is guaranteed to impress.
Please accept our boldest recommendation for today’s 90 Point treat.
A super dark, inky, almost midnight crimson through and through.
A beautiful lush nose, with deep notes of dark fruit and spice leaping forward. Ripened blackberry and black cherry are joined by freshly cracked black peppercorn, toasty baking spices, smoky sandalwood, and dried Provencal herbs.
Deeply layered notes of juicy ripened dark berries are framed against touches of dark chocolate, mocha powder, dried sweet tobacco leaf, rosemary, black peppercorn, and remnants of a fresh log fire.
A really nice wine, intensely flavorful, with a lengthy finish that features lingering juicy fruit flavors and silken tannins.
Grilled beef tenderloin, served alongside garlic and rosemary fingerling potatoes.
What the Winery Says
The grapes for our Syrée are selected from two highly regarded vineyards: Syrah from Ryan Road and Petite Sirah from Creston Valley, both in southeastern Paso Robles. Located at an elevation of 1,500 feet, Ryan Road features soils rich in limestone, while Creston Valley Vineyard is a well exposed hillside with warm growing conditions, sandy soil, and small amounts of limestone.
90 Point Review - Wine Enthusiast This is a ripe, full-bodied red, made mostly from Syrah, with about one-fifth Petite Sirah for tannic weight and depth. It’s a big wine, front-loaded with blackberry and black pepper flavors, with a spicy, smoky finish that tastes of grilled Canadian bacon.

About the Winery
We first discovered Paso Robles in the early 1980s and became enamored with this emerging wine country. Along golden slopes, where the Pacific coastline unfolds into rugged ranch lands and cowboy ambiance, a new generation of California winemakers was turning Paso Robles into one of the world’s most dynamic wine growing regions.
In the mid 1990s we planted our first estate vineyard and established Vina Robles as a family winery specializing in varieties that excel in the region’s diverse terroir. The vision for Vina Robles is summed up by our motto: European Inspiration – California Character.
