Rockpile is one of the most sought after AVAs. While Rockpile is one of the newest AVAs in California, receiving status April 29th, 2002, the area has been referred to as Rockpile since the 1850’s. Located in Northern Sonoma County, at the northwest corner of Dry Creek Valley, the Rockpile AVA encompasses nearly 15,000 acres, of which less than 160 are planted to vineyard. This makes Rockpile one of the smallest AVAs in the United States in terms of acreage planted. Westphall Ridge is the name of our Rockpile Vineyard and it is farmed by Bob Gloekner and the Mauritson Family, who have been taking care of Rockpile viticulture since it’s inception. These vines live in a granitic loam soil with blue clay and a perfect view of Lake Sonoma.

This very special iteration from one of California’s newest and sought after AVA’s includes aromas of boysenberry, maple, sage and Rockpile minerality, followed by delicious flavors of blackberry, blueberry, spiced tea, dried tobacco leaves and a sexy chocolate and white pepper finish.
