Mission Codename Leaping lizards
How?! How are the deals just raining down like this?? Forgive us! Like men for The Weather Girls, this monsoon of awesomeness continues to pour down on us, Dear Operative. Maybe it is our devastatingly good looks, or charm?! Both? Or… more likely… dumb luck?!
Whatever the case, here we have ANOTHER mega-Cabernet offer ripe for the picking from a long-timer favorite among Spies and Operatives alike, GRAND NAPA!
Grand Napa has been churning out some rock-solid wines from the heart of Rutherford, just on the edge of Inglenook Estate. They source from other top-shelf vineyards too that remain unnamed. When their neighbors include the likes of Scarecrow, Quintessa, or Chimney Rock, you can imagine that the quality is way, way up there. We’re talking names that don’t even consider pricing their bottles under $200 (or $500… or… sky’s the limit really.) So, yeah, under $50 what? Run… don’t walk!
Born from the great Stags Leap District. With solid scores and 70% OFF?!
The 2021 vintage was a picture-perfect one. And it wasn’t hard to make a great wine, as this proves. It boasts a bright and juicy core of deep red and black fruit, terrific acidity, and minerality to please the most die-hard rockhound. Ripe cassis, red and black raspberry, currants, eucalyptus, pencil lead, and crushed granite all join together in a warm group hug. Loads of bright energy and depth play nicely and despite a 22-month residence in oak, moderated well, letting the fruit and nuances shine bright. If you like your Napa cabs on the classic side, this is your jam.
This flagship bottling tops out at $160 from the winery but today while it’s here, you can get it for WAY less. And just think of all the things you can do with that $110+ SAVINGS!
If you’re quick and nimble…
93 Points – James Suckling “Aromas of mulberries, dried herbs, tar and baking spices on the nose following through to a full body with fine, firm tannins. Serious and precise with layers of spices and herbs mingling with the pure blue fruit. Vivid and well-made. Better from 2026.”
92 Points – The Wine Independent “Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District waltzes out with notions of spicy black plums, boysenberry preserves, and fruitcake giving way to hints of clove oil and tree bark. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers mouth-coating juicy black fruits with a plush texture and plenty of freshness, finishing with a spicy kick. Drink 2024-2040.”
