Mission Codename Holme Sweet Home
The Winberrie is gonzo! Two days in a row now thirsty yous are cleaning us out, wow…
All you Zin fanatics, do not panic! Because we’re heading south to Paso Robles, for a truly stupendous follow-up.
Word of caution - this stuff contains atomic levels of rich, ripe fruit. If that’s not your thing, please exit and come back another day.
For those of you who love the hedonistic indulgence that Zinfandel brings to the table, let’s get into it. We like our Zin BIG, and round… and plumpy… with a little somethin’ somethin’. This beautiful bottle flaunts EVERYTHING we crave - rich, and impossibly concentrated, but not syrupy, or stewed. Think blueberry cobbler. Brambly blackberry jam. Strawberry whips. Those bags of dried mixed berries from Trader Joe’s. Tahitian vanilla bean. A touch of savory beef jerky. It’s all going on here, and we’re eagerly planning what to grill tonight for the perfect pairing. Probably some ground prime ribeye burgers and some elote style corn. Yea that’s it.
Truly a family affair, Holme brings a fantastic global story covering both hemispheres. Winemaker Julie Holme grew up in the Napa Valley, working at Buena Vista, Sterling, Robert Mondavi and Opus One, leading her to study viticulture and winemaking at prestigious CalPoly. An internship in New Zealand, prompted her fascination with cool-climates and a passion for travel. She met Craig Holme in Australia, who had some stunning Shiraz vineyards to farm, and they started Holme Family Cellars to import first. After a star-studded career via Cakebread Cellars, Chimney Rock, Gloria Ferrer, Sonoma Cutrer, and Justin Winery, they made their way to Paso Robles to grow their family and portfolio, which is where this Zinfandel is grown.
Oh! And one more thing…
The price! How could we not mention that? A sweet 16 bucks. Down from $35… we can’t click for you though!
