Trail 3150 is a blend of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec from our estate vineyard in the Eastern foothills of the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley. Coming on the heels of a prolonged multi-year drought, the 2016 growing season was defined by near-ideal conditions. March and early April rains allowed the vines to emerge from dormancy and begin the growing season with ample moisture and nutrient rich soil. This supported the growth of healthy vigorous canopies and balanced vines. Mild summer conditions, with only one marked heat spike, encouraged the fruit to ripen evenly with minimal interruption giving rise to deep color, intense aromatics and ample natural acidity. Combined with ideal harvesting dates, the wine showcases great depth, energy, and key varietal notes. Early reviews are that the 2016 was exceptional and that the wines will be some of the most compelling of the last decade.

Each year we hand select grapes from specific blocks in the vineyard. Our 2016 blend is delicate and precise in detail, the bright red-purple hue an indicator of the depth and fresh fruit character. With distinct aromas of raspberry and cassis, the wine opens to reveal subtle layers of complexity. Intense, concentrated ripe fruit notes are offered, supported by a robust structure with integrated soft tannins. This vintage will continue to reveal itself over the course of many years.

At Trail 3150 we are committed to environmental stewardship and climate action. Some of our general practices include using composts and cover-crops to improve the health of soils and reduce erosion. We practice no-till farming which further reduces erosion by not deeply disturbing the soils. The use of drip irrigation enables us to control our water usage. All of these vineyard practices ensure that we care for the habitat around the edges of the vineyard and encourage biodiversity in the vineyard. As part our ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and climate action, our vineyard is now certified Napa Green Land and certified Fish Friendly Farming.
