The Mosby Ossessione is our first true Italian import. Bill traveled to Italy and worked in conjunction with grape growers there to produce this wine. The grapes are from a pampered vineyard located in the rolling hills of the Marche, Italy. Swept and cooled by breezes off the Adriatic Sea, this area is renowned for its intensely-flavored Montepulciano grapes. These are the true varietal grapes of Montepulciano, not the Montepulciano Noble grapes, which are actually Sangiovese. The Montepulciano varietal wine most commonly sold in this country is the Montepulciano d’Abruzzo.
The 2012 Ossessione has brilliant ruby color and an intoxicating nose with perfume-like notes of forest floor, sandalwood, cocoa, and dried red cherries. The dusty, old-world flavors include dark cherry, leather, baking spice, and a hint of licorice. The wine finishes with medium tannins and a hint of vanilla.
True to its heritage, Ossessione has brilliant ruby color and an intoxicating nose with perfume-like notes of woodsy sandalwood, brown spice, and maple. Flavors, of dried red currant and spice finish with medium tannins and a hint of vanilla. The wine is ready to drink now and would pair very well with roasted meat dishes or a selection of Italian cured meats served in the antipasti style.
