Of Rauzan-Ségla!
Ultra-Rare 2nd Wine

Mission Codename Second by second

Be still my beating heart!! THE Rauzan-Ségla in the house. One of the great Margaux second growths. From the most EPIC 2015 vintage….just…wow.

Now, mind you this is not the “Grand Vin” but rather their second wine. It is however, extremely rare to see in the states, and it comes with its own gang of scores - JS93, WA92 and AG92 to be exact. Best of all, it won’t set you back $250. Or even $99. Today we’re rocking it out at 50% OFF.

Rauzan holds a special place in the hearts of critics and collectors and always brings glowing praise. Vinous raved “Rauzan-Ségla is blessed with some of the finest terroir in Bordeaux. This is a constant; it does not and will not change… The 1900 was so remarkable that I quipped to Audebert that it is the best Rauzan-Ségla until the 2015. That was the truth.”

The TRUTH!! Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate extends the hype: “Forget everything you know about Rauzan-Ségla, all those vintages you have tasted in the past. 2015 is a whole new ball game…There is a sense of completeness and harmony here…such a favorable growing season has resulted in a killer wine that will turn out to be the greatest modern-day release from the estate.”

And maybe the strongest testament to this wine comes from across the Atlantic where they hold the pulse of the Bordeaux trade, by an overly impressed Jancis Robinson, “One of the more surprising results was just how well Ségla, the second wine of Château Rauzan-Ségla, showed. It was the second-favourite wine overall in the blind Margaux flight, nestling between Château Rauzan-Ségla and Pavillon Rouge de Château Margaux. And some of us – seven out of 18 highly professional tasters – even scored it higher than Rauzan. The second wine is certainly even more pleasurable to drink now, and costs only about a quarter the price of Château Rauzan-Ségla itself.”

Wow…high praise!! Ok, let’s dive into this beauty…

Simply brimming with luscious fruit, this shows a modern styled, crowd pleasing side of the left bank’s famed appellation. Unlike the Grand Vin which almost requires years of aging to hit full stride, this comes primed and ready for immediate enjoyment. Beautiful aromatics pop from the glass and the palate is loaded down with plum and blueberry fruit, crushed raspberries and strawberry, and flaunting an intense violet note that can only come from Margaux.

This has HUGE potential and the upside is big. A total stunner that’s worthy of a place in anyone’s collection at this price. We have precious little to go around so what you must - get a home equity loan, credit extension, pawn your wedding ring. Just lock it down.

Finally, we’ll leave you with some eye candy from the Château…

93 Points – James Suckling

“A solid red with a dense palate of ripe fruit, chewy tannins and a savory finish. This shows structure and reserve. Excellent second wine from Rauzan.”

92 Points – Antonio Galloni’s Vinous

“It didn’t take long for Nicolas Audebert to make an impact at Rauzan-Ségla. According the Audebert, the big challenge in 2015 was maintaining freshness while respecting the classic style but also capturing the personality of the ripe year. It certainly looks like he succeeded. He is young, has worked in a number of regions around the world and brings tremendous passion to his work. You know what? It shows. Rauzan-Ségla’s second wine, the 2015 Ségla, is made from a collection of satellite parcels to the main estate, along with various young-vine plots. A very pretty second wine with lovely aromatic complexity and depth. Succulent and racy, the 2015 expresses the radiant personality of the vintage nicely. Savory herb and floral touches add aromatic nuances throughout. This is a classy Margaux to add to many others. Drink 2020-2030.”

92 Points – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

“The 2015 Ségla is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, and a “seasoning” of 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc, representing just over half the total crop, matured in 25% new wood. It has a fragrant, very precise bouquet with mineral-rich, very pure blackberry, blueberry and cold flint-like aromas. There is wonderful tension here for a Deuxième vin. The palate is medium-bodied with a juicy opening, just a tingle of spice on the tip of the tongue. There is very fine tension here, moderate weight but great persistence and sense of energy on the finish. On a budget? Thinking of a second wine? Look no further. Drink 2019-2033.”
