Contrarian flies in the face of our own conventions. Emboldened by Cabernet Sauvignon, Contrarian possesses Blackbird’s signature aromatic richness alongside bold tannins that draw a striking contrast to the rest of the flock.
Each wine in the portfolio is a true example of Blackbird’s ongoing commitment to quality by partnering with a selection of Napa Valley’s most precious vineyards. Located on Spring Mountain, Cabernet Sauvignon from Ballard Vineyard maintains balanced acidity from the cool nights and elevation. The mountain influence on fruit lends structure and big tannins to round out the wine. Perched on a rolling hillside in the cool climate of Carneros, the Hudson Vineyard is a high-quality fruit source for Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Atop the Vaca Mountains south of Pritchard Hill, the rocky, volcanic terroir of the Stagecoach Vineyard produces intense Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
Complex and expressive with aromas of black currant, cherry and black Périgold truffle, Contrarian is ripe to impress with its notable density, tight tannins and illustrious texture. With a long finish of black licorice, blackberries, plum and toffee, the vintage evolves tremendously on the palate. This wine is captivating now and will continue to develop in the cellar for another 15 years.
