Rancho Santa Rosa Vineyard is owned by Bill Foley of Foley Family Wines and is located between Lompoc and Buellton on Highway 246. It was planted like a quilt of many small vineyards, as each block was meticulously planted to just the right varietal, rootstock, and clone for that particular slope and soil. There are 225 acres planted with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Since 2002, Flying Goat has been sourcing grapes from the vineyard. Beginning in 2010, we secured clone 667 from block 3, which is an undulating hillside block. This block produces very small berries in very tight clusters with lots of intense fruit and color due to the extreme conditions of the terroir.

The nose displays dried blueberries and Santa Rosa red plums. Cracked pepper, green cardamon, and clove are some lovely spicy qualities that also tantalize your nose. Savor the marionberry flavor with dusty tannins lingering in the background. The long finish displays a nice melding of mocha and bacon with grippy tannins. Pair with spanakopita, pork or duck breast confit, blackened catfish, or spicy dark chocolate. This wine dances across your palate like a Viennese waltz.
