The Arano label is a facsimile of one of CVNE´s labels from 1910. The stars represent the children of CVNE’s founder, Eusebio Real de Asúa, who was married to Sofia Arano. His brother Raimundo, the other founder, did not have any children. Each star represents one of the children: Sofia, Á. Minerva, and Ramón. Arano is the maternal family name. Eusebio had one son called Ramón, and his mother’s surname was Arano. Therefore, the wine produced with our Moradillo grapes is a tribute to her. The refinement and finesse that we seek in our wines are a reflection of our mother’s surname.
The 2019 campaign has brought together all the necessary conditions for the production of high quality wines. due to the absence of rains at key times, flowering and ripening, in the months of May and June, the quantity of grapes was dropped, obtaining small and loose bunches, less compact, increasing the concentration of color and aromas. The evolution of the grapes during the vegetive cycle came with a slight delay, but the low productions caused an earlier maturation. The harvesting of the grapes went smoothly and gradually, make a good selection of the grapes both in the vineyard and in the winery. The harvest took place in Bela between September 27th and October 17th.
Arano is made from grapes from Moradillo de Roa’s over 20-year-old vineyards. 9 hectares in the plots of Blancares, El Charco, Presas, Estepar, and Pozuelo Pico at 1,000 meters above sea level on stony soils with a continental climate. These terrace vineyards are composed of gravel, silt, and sandy loam soil. The soils are of variable depth with a medium-high level of limestone. The grapes are hand-harvested in 10 kg crates and fermented in stainless steel tanks with pre-fermentation cold maceration for four days, followed by alcoholic fermentation. Finally, malolactic fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks, followed by barrel-aging for a minimum of 15 months in French oak barrels.
