In the heart of the Clos des Mouches Chanson appellation, it owns a plot of 4.3 hectares. Ideal location on the slopes of Mont Saint-Désiré facing south-east, bordering the Premiers Crus of Pommard. 2.5 hectares are planted with Pinot Noir on a limestone subsoil enhanced with loamy clay soil.

After a very rainy winter and March, spring took hold in April with a first episode of heat. The mildness of May and early June subsequently favored a dazzling growth of the vine. The summer was hot and marked by several heat waves, which led to a situation of drought. These climatic conditions resulted in an early start to the harvest, on August 28. The harvest took place under a radiant sun. Vinification: after fermentation in whole bunches for two weeks, the red wines are aged in oak barrels in our 15th century cellars for a period ranging from 14 to 18 months, with a moderate proportion of new barrels.

Dark red robe. Complex nose with aromas of blackcurrant, plum and notes of undergrowth. Very dense and deep mouth on a beautiful volume. Chiseled texture on well-integrated tannins. Opulent and silky finish. Pair with mixed red meats, dish in beef bourguignon type sauce and certain cheeses (Brillat-Savarin).

Jean-Pierre Confuron, Chanson’s winemaker, describes the 2018 vintage as follows: “an extraordinary vintage in every sense. The growing season veered from too wet to too hot and finally too dry, which made deciding when to pick a real challenge. We ultimately decided to begin on the 1st of September with our Domaine vineyards. Yields were quite variable though overall quite good and potential alcohols were also varied at between 13 and 14.5%. As we usually do, the vinifications were done using 100% whole clusters for all the wines, save for the Nuits villages because it was hailed on, and thankfully, there were no difficulties with stoppages.” Overall we can say that the wines produced in 2018 express the richness and pleasantness of the vintage while keeping the elegance and the balance that Domaine Chanson is known for.
