Wayra takes its name from the Quechua word for wind. This concept gives birth to our WAYRA range of wines – mountain winds. With a romantic and adventurous spirit. With its warm whisper, spring´s messenger melts the snow in the Andes and brings fertility to our crops. Our Wayra range reflects and expresses a unique terroir. Located in the Uco Valley at 1.250 meters above sea level, our vineyard is watered with water coming from thawed ice directly from the Andes Mountains. Thanks to the wide thermal range, the alluvial soil, and the careful treatment of our collaborators, our wines reach their maximum varietal expression.
Entirely from the Los Nacimientos Vineyard at 4,100 feet altitude, irrigated naturally with thawed ice from the Andes mountains. The soils are sandy-loam and alluvial rocks with calcareous content, contributing minerality and complexity. The climate in Tunuyán is with summers that are warm and mostly clear. Winters are cold and it is dry all year round. Temperatures usually oscillate between 37-84 °F, and rarely ever go below freezing or higher than 90 °F. This wide thermal range allows the plant to develop a bigger concentration of aromas and colors, as well as good levels of acidity.
Hand-harvested in 12 kg bins, in stages within the same lots. Always during the early hours of the morning to ensure that the grapes reach the winery at a low temperature. Bunches that do not meet the quality and health requirements are discarded directly while harvesting. We use several fermentation techniques - micro vinifications in small tanks, open-top French oak tanks, and small roll fermentors. Pigeage is performed several times manually during fermentation to enhance the extraction of aromas, color, and, above all, structure. 100% of the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and is matured in first and second-use French oak barrels for 18 months.
