In 2014, our Lake County Cabernet Sauvignon produced small berries with thick skins adding to the flavor complexity and structure of the wine, and is very desirable for an exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. We utilize three different cabernet sauvignon clones in this wine: Clone 4 that provides the plush red fruit, Clone 6 that provides the mid-palate spice, and Clone 337 (our favorite) which provides the classic Bordeaux focus and structure. This Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits the classic aromas of cassis, licorice, and dark currant fruit with a slight hint of vanilla toast from the French oak. It is rich and full-bodied with sweet tannins, a multi-layered mid-palate of dark red and black berries, and a long finish with hints of dill and cassis. This wine will cellar well over the next 10-15+ years.
Sol Rouge Vineyards contains rich, red volcanic soil and, from this unique profile, Sol Rouge derived its name – translating to “Red Soil” in French. As part of the Red Hills Appellation, Sol Rouge Vineyards predominantly contains the Konocti-Benridge volcanic soil type which makes sense since Sol Rouge is nestled between Mt. Konocti and Benson Ridge. Combination of Clone 4, Clone 6 and Clone 337 with the tannins of the Mayacamas Mtns
