This vintage started cooler than the historical average. Though temperatures remained cooler than normal through the summer, there was plenty of heat accumulation that allowed for a beautiful gradual rise and ripening that is uncommon for this AVA. The result was a delightfully balanced fruit with deep flavor not lacking tannin, but also not overshadowed.

Sourced from the iconic Shaw 32 and Quintessance Vineyards within the Red Mountain AVA. Although our blocks in these two vineyards are only about a mile apart, their orientation, elevation and topography are significantly different and produce fruit that complement each other to create a deep and balanced wine.

Minimally invasive winemaking, to let this wine reflect it’s time and place. With Red Mountain Cabernet known for it’s thick skins and small berries the result being a tight condensed wine. As such we leave in barrel for 24 months so the wine is fully integrated with the oak, then upon bottling it is laid down for an additional 36 months prior to release. The result is a classic balanced 100% Cabernet reflection of this AVA.

As it opens up, it shows as a deep garnet wine with balanced tannins and acid, composed of bright red and black fruit flavors with hints of cigar box and earthy undertones. There is a story written in the dark background of this label that speaks to back looking story of time and place that this wine intends to tell. With each unique vintage comes a unique story that has been captured to be told around a table when it is opened and enjoyed.
