We carefully picked the grapes during the cool night and early morning hours. Once at the winery, the grapes were de-stemmed, gently pressed, and cold-soaked for several days prior to fermentation. Once fermentation was complete, the wine was racked into French oak barrels to age for 12 months prior to bottling.
2016 was another phenomenal year in Sonoma County. The season kicked off with much-needed winter rains that set the stage for months of steady and even growth. Temperatures were slightly below average, a good thing, which leads to excellent phenolic development. Red wines of this vintage show amazing color, well-balanced sugar, and acid at harvest, resulting in intense flavor.
Located in northern Sonoma County, the Alexander Valley is sheltered from the Pacific maritime influence by the low-lying hills northeast of Healdsburg. The region’s proximity to the Russian River encourages early morning fog that covers the vineyard areas until it is burned off by the afternoon sun. Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is rich with a supple mouthfeel.
