The Jory Hills Vineyard, first planted by WillaKenzie Estate in 2002, is located in the Dundee Hills appellation of the Willamette Valley. The vineyard’s name pays tribute to its red Jory soils, which consist of very deep well-drained silty clay loam soil derived from colluvium and igneous bedrock (basalt). Today, the Jory Hills Vineyard has approximately 51 acres of Pinot Noir split between a broad array of clones including Pommard, Swan, Coury, Calera, and Dijon.
In 2017, springtime temperatures led to seasonal bud break and flowering periods occurring in the early spring and early summer, respectively. Total heat accumulation during the growing season was close to the 30-year regional average. The vintage conditions helped to create wines that are very pretty, well-balanced, and true to the ‘classic Willamette Valley’ style.
This wine offers a very intense and fruit-driven aroma profile, with notes of black cherry, black raspberry, and baking spices. The palate is plush and juicy with sleek and supple tannins and a long, refined finish.
