The grapes used in our 2017 Chardonnay are grown entirely at a seven-acre Green Valley vineyard, located ten miles from the Pacific Ocean near the town of Graton, where the Coast Range slopes down to meet the Santa Rosa/Russian River plain. The vines are the Old Wente clone of Chardonnay, planted in the 1970s by a legendary Sonoma viticultural pioneer.
This area, the Green Valley District, is the coolest part of the larger Russian River Viticultural Area. The warm afternoon sun produces rich, full-bodied wines while the foggy mornings and cool nights preserve the wine’s freshness and crisp finish.
This is an opulent, luscious, expressive Chardonnay, rich but perfectly proportioned. The wine’s flavors include pears, Golden Delicious apples, orange peel, butter, honey, and marzipan.
