The 2016 vintage produced warm spring temperatures leading to early bud break. Moderate temperatures in the early summer allowed for ideal bloom and fruit set. Cooler than average temperatures in the early summer allowed fruit to ripen gradually, leading to lower sugars and higher natural acidity. These cooler temperatures extended the growing season for optimal flavor development across all varietals. Harvest started on September 2nd and continued into mid-October.

Syrah sourced from our Estate Eidolon Vineyard brings the earthy and gamey notes the ‘Rocks District’ is known for. We co-ferment with Roussanne and Viognier to add freshness and floral aromas. Hand harvested grapes picked early in the morning with small lot fermentations in stainless steel tanks. The cap was manually punched down twice a day. The wine was aged for 18 months in French Oak barrels with cross flow filtration prior to bottling. Notes of black pepper, violets, sage, blackberry, olive tapenade, purple plum, raspberry, forest floor, and savory game notes.
