Ad Libitum Maturana Blanca is crafted from 100% Maturana Blanca, a rare, indigenous grape variety officially recognized by the Rioja Qualified Designation of Origin in 2008. This variety holds historical significance, as it was first documented in Rioja’s history in 1622. The vineyard, planted in 1997, is situated at an altitude of 565 meters on ancient terraces of the Najerilla Valley. The soils are clay-limestone with high iron content and abundant pebbles, ideal for viticulture.
The wine is made with meticulous care. After destemming, the grapes are gently pressed in a small vertical press. The must undergoes static clarification before fermenting at 16°C in new 500-liter French oak barrels. Following fermentation, the wine remains in the barrel on its lees for five months, undergoing bâtonnage to enhance texture and complexity.
The 2022 harvest, which began on September 12 and ended on October 17, was rated “Very Good” by the Regulatory Council of D.O.Ca. Rioja. This vintage was the warmest and driest on record, with no rainfall during the harvest, ensuring perfect grape health. The vineyard yields approximately 6,000 kg per hectare, and the total production is limited to 4,000 bottles.
On the nose, the wine reveals white fruit aromas with hints of bakery notes, fine lees, and subtle spiced and toasted undertones. The oak aging is exceptionally well-integrated. On the palate, it is powerful, with vibrant acidity, a crisp and juicy texture, and great volume and roundness. The finish is persistent, leaving a lasting impression.
