We are so excited to present our first ever Aviatrix Cab! Cab has always been the cornerstone of our La Sirena and Barrett & Barrett brands, but we haven’t previously had occasion to explore Cab fruit from other regions outside of Napa. In 2020, Santa Barbara was one of the only areas in California that was not affected by smoke taint from the wildfires that year – we were thrilled to get this beautiful fruit and be able to produce this very unique expression of Cabernet Sauvignon for our Aviatrix label.
Deep ruby in color, this Cab opens with strong juicy fruit aromas of wild berry, black cherry juice, and ripe black plums, with lovely vanilla notes and a touch of pink peppercorn. On the palate, it bursts with bright fruit flavor that almost has a sweet impression (though it is a completely dry wine). It’s full-bodied in flavor and power, but has soft, streamlined tannin and a silky, light feel on the palate, very atypical for a Cab Sauv. An intriguing, evolving finish will give you lots to think about as you savor this deliciously unusual expression of Cab.
Aviatrix wines are dedicated to the intrepid women throughout the history of aviation, who surpass society’s expectations and limitations to soar to new heights. An ‘Aviatrix’ is a female aviator – Heidi is a helicopter pilot as well as a winemaker. We are proud to offer this meaningful wine and carry on family tradition with our mother-daughter winemaking collaboration. Production is always small, focusing on fine wines of purity and excellence. We hope Aviatrix will inspire you to soar!
