The star of the estate, ‘Selezione 123’ is a single-vineyard selection (the plot is named ‘123’), one that highlights Patrizia’s highest-altitude and oldest vines (planted in 1988). Smoky and suave, with fine-grained tannins and loads of heady black fruits. Elegance and power at once!
A single-vineyard selection of the estate’s oldest vines (planted in 1988) from a plot called ‘123,’ located at the highest point of the estate, at 1,050 feet in altitude. Soils are classic Montalcino, a mix of “galestro,” a mineral-rich compacted clay, and friable volcanic rock. The vines are 40 years old on average and are hand-harvested, fermented in stainless steel tanks on indigenous yeasts. Aged for 60 months in 7.5hl French oak casks and 20hl Slavonian oak casks, then 12 months in bottle.
Aromas of black and red cherries, plums, baking spice. Full-bodied, structured; fine-grained tannins and superb length. Pair with grilled pork sausages; roasted chicken; and aged sheep’s milk cheeses like pecorino.
