Frédéric Magnien is a fifth-generation winemaker from Morey-SaintDenis. Learning the craft first from his father, Michel Magnien (of Domaine Michel Magnien), Fred also traveled to hone his talents in other fine wine regions before returning home and starting his own négociant domaine in his native village. Magnien differentiates himself from other négociants in that he works closely with partner growers throughout the growing season, selecting only older-vine parcels cared for to his exacting standards. His own teams pick the grapes at harvest, a further qualitative step. The vineyards Magnien works with are certified organic.
This climate possesses the oldest vine in the commune planted in 1881. Gevrey-Chambertin’s worldwide reputation is based on the excellence of its Grands Crus. “Mazoyère” means “small houses” in the french language. This Grand Cru is located in cold micro-climate which allows a clear distinction from its neighbour Les Charmes.
Installed on limestone outcrops covered with a red-colored soil. The rocky basement is very resistant but well cracked, which allows the roots of the vine to dive into the deep. This is the explanation of their amazing longevity. Some plots are more than 100 years old. This Grand Cru will be perfect with a grilled prime rib.
