Grown on our 18-acre estate mountain vineyard at elevations of up to 2,200 feet in rocky red volcanic soil. The vineyard is CCOF Organic and Demeter Certified Biodynamic®. On the ranch we pursue a true biodynamic “closed system,” where biodynamic preparations are sourced primarily from our property. A picturesque aspect of this is our Scottish Highland cattle, which play an important role. Hand crafted in an old-world style, we use minimal intervention in the cellar to bring the highest expression of our Lake County Red Hills vineyard’s terroir to every glass.

The 2010 growing season was slightly cooler and longer than usual. Our mid-summer heat which can rise to 110 degrees in a typical year, topped out in the high 90s to 100. We still felt the rhythm of hot days followed by cool nights which typify our Lake County high elevation vineyard site. This slightly cooler growing season allowed the fruit to develop multi-layered complexity and nuance. Harvest was October 24th, bringing in just over two tons per acre

This is one of our most elegant vintages to date. With long hang time and cooler temperatures, this vintage developed layers of complexity and subtlety. Showing lively, saturated, bright garnet red in the glass; perfumed with notes of cedar, ripe roses and nutmeg. Starts out soft and elegant offering notes of Bing cherry, black fruit, sweet leather and cocoa. Finish is long, lush and velvety. Softly integrated tannins provide structure and offer longevity. This wine is beautifully balanced. Pair with grilled New York steaks or your favorite dark chocolate!
