Winemaker/Proprietress, Mermaid & Swashbuckler Heidi Peterson Barrett’s Notes:
The blend I came up with was so delicious that an entirely new wine was born. Because the original blend used seven varietals, the ‘treasure of the seven seas’ idea was a natural and so was the Pirate name. Each year the blend changes slightly. As you can imagine, it’s a big, dark, raucous blend, completely mouth filling and bold, yet made with finesse.
The 2019 Pirate is very dark ruby in color with deep, ripe aromas of primarily black fruits – black cherry and wild blackberry, with nuances of vanilla, fruitcake, mocha, and a touch of savory smoked meat. Nicely layered fruit flavors with a plush, textural mouthfeel and good length. The tannins are moderate and silky, and the French oak is subtle and well-integrated. The overall impression is a big, voluptuous-yet-balanced mouthful of delicious flavors. 2019 made wines of great concentration and very good age-ability. Delectable & ready to enjoy upon release - ARGHHH!
This vintage is a blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Grenache, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Petite Sirah.
Our production at La Sirena is always small, focusing on fine wines of purity and excellence, the best that can be made. Wishing you all the best!
