Situated 30 miles east of the Pacific Ocean at 1,500 feet in Mendocino County’s Yorkville Highlands, Hawks Butte Vineyard is organically farmed and benefits from a cooler, ocean-influenced climate nearly identical in stature to France’s Northern Rhone. The south-facing vines sit on steep slopes and enjoy cool winds and rocky, heat-retentive soils, ideal for producing grapes with excellent acidity. Once harvested, the grapes were foot stomped and fermented whole cluster. We rely on native yeasts to carry out the fermentation process before the wine is pressed to neutral puncheons for aging. The wine rests in bottle for a year before release. Fresh, bright and elegantly textured, while packed with intensity. Ebulliently perfumed and spiced full of all the things we adore about Syrah: lavender, violet, olive, peppercorn and graphite.
