140+ year old Zinfandel Vines from the Historic Monte Rosso Vineyard at the top of Moon Mountain.
Monte Rosso Vineyard is perched high atop the Moon Mountain District in Sonoma County, California. Planted in the 1880s, it’s famed for its distinctive red, iron-rich volcanic soils (hence the name “Red Mountain”) and significant elevation. It’s particularly renowned for its old-vine Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon, which produce intensely flavored, structured, and age-worthy wines reflecting the rugged terroir. Considered one of California’s true “grand cru” quality sites, its exceptional fruit has been sought after by prestigious wineries for decades, initially made famous by Louis M. Martini and now owned by E.& J. Gallo.
The 2022 Monte Rosso Vineyard Zinfandel is a magnificent example of California Zinfandel at its peak. It fully embodies the legacy of this iconic vineyard and its ancient vines, delivering a wine of exceptional intensity, complexity, and balance. With its opulent dark fruit, distinct savory spice, luxurious texture, and significant structure, it stands as a testament to the power and elegance possible from this special site. It’s bold, complex, and perfectly balanced, promising longevity and fascinating evolution with cellar aging.
