The 2021 Chardonnay is built around a trio of vineyards from the Russian River Valley AVA. The cuvée’s core is driven by an older vine vineyard, planted in the mid-70’s, floral and precise this portion of the blend provides apple blossom and stone fruit. Balancing against that, a vineyard from Westside Road lends density, texture and its hallmark shaved almonds—a classic character in Chardonnay. Rounding out the wine, a hillside property near the town of Forestville captures the California sunshine offering honey and wildflowers to this complex wine.
The 2021 Chardonay is an authentic example of the harvest day flavor experience. Choices made in farming and winemaking reflect the delicious and balanced nature of cool-climate chardonnay. This was particularly important in the 2021 vintage, as heat and drought were plentiful throughout the season. The blend of geography, elevation and marine layer of these vineyards bring everything from rich, baked apple and exotic notes, to fresh picked pear and zesty citrus. As always, texture coats the palate adding luxury while nuanced acidity balances the finish.
