2018 will be remembered for the very high mildew pressure spotted in the vineyard. Fortunately, the weather has completely changed over the months of August, September and October, ensuring a raw material of remarkable quality.
In a stellar vintage for the Right Bank, the 2018 Château Beauséjour (Duffau‑Lagarrosse) captures the power, depth, and elegance of its storied limestone plateau. This Merlot-dominant blend (with a touch of Cabernet Franc) is intensely expressive, offering layers of black cherry, plum compote, violet, and crushed rock. The hallmark mineral tension of Saint‑Émilion’s calcaire terroir runs beneath ripe, seductive fruit and finely sculpted tannins.
Crafted under the stewardship of Joséphine Duffau-Lagarrosse, with consulting from Nicolas Thienpont and the oenology team of Axel Marchal and Julien Viaud, this is a wine of both legacy and modern precision. Aged for 14–16 months in 60% new French oak, the texture is seamless, with depth and lift in perfect balance.
Though approachable young with decanting, this Grand Cru Classé is built to cellar for two decades or more, continuing the château’s reputation as one of the Right Bank’s most captivating hidden gems.
