Mission Codename Track ready
“One of the more impressive 2022s I’ve tasted” - Decanter
My fellow Cab-craving Ops!
We’re dropping the dime on an uber-micro-production, artisanally crafted, locals-only discovery.
This is the word of mouth, “I know a guy” tight-lipped tip you simply won’t find ANYWHERE else, but here, today, from your favorite Agents of Wine.
CHIRON! The flagship, 96 POINT Bolt of Cloth Cabernet, no less!
And of course, we’re turning it loose at an unprecedented price. If that lead quote didn’t sell you on it, or the $100 freefall on the price doesn’t have you racing through the checkout yet; read on.
If you’re still unfamiliar with Bobby Moy (who also helped craft our incredible, if not short-lived Enigma Cabs), here’s the deal…
Our good friend is the face behind Chiron. He’s one of the friendliest guys you’ll meet. A salt-of-the-earth dude. And a most meticulous and wise winemaker. He’s a quiet force, and like “The Wolf” in Pulp Fiction, he’s the guy a lot of the big-shot winemakers call in for help to get their $200 Cabs to reach full potential when something isn’t quite right.
Bobby got his start working under THE TRB (Thomas Rivers Brown, for the unwashed out there) at Tamber Bey. He studied the playbook that powers Rivers-Marie, Schrader, Maybach, Kinsella and many other such ultra-high-end cult labels. He soaked up everything he could about the winemaking details and approach, and that’s 1,000% on display here.
Chiron is his own passion project. Production is always tiny - around 100-200 cases per wine. So, when he rang us with an offer to grab a handful of cases, we jumped at the chance.
His goal has been to make a lineup of Cabernets that can easily compete with the $150-$200 forces out there. In an interview with The Wine Write, he said, “I have several friends who do charge that much. They taste my wines and tell me the Chiron Cabs are as good or better than their own.”
His “Bolt of Cloth” bottling always varies each year. Like a tapestry of cloth, it refers to his goal of picking some of the most choice lots from around Napa Valley and combining them into one piece of work.
At the tasting table recently, this was the clear standout. Among a sea of other high-end Napa Cabs, it flashed a sexy, opulent style that perfectly walks the line of bold power and restraint. Polished, round, and mouth-coating, it sure made our day and will do the same for yours.
Like a Bugatti Chiron, we expect a zero-to-60 sellout before you can blink twice on this one.
96 Points – Decanter “The Bolt of Cloth is one of the more impressive 2022s I’ve tasted, bursting from the glass with ripe cherry and blackberry fruit, hints of bay laurel and mint, and elegant layers of baking spice, cedarwood, and cocoa powder. The medium-to-full-bodied palate is supported by superfine tannins that are soft, generous, and perfectly in tune with the wine’s fresh, energetic character. Quite lovely. Drink 2025-2038.”
