Nestled in the heart of the Faugères appellation, the Mas Gabinèle estate covers just over 23 hectares on the foothills of the Cévennes overlooking the village of Laurens. The vines are planted at an altitude of 180 metres and are between 30 and 60 years old, naturally producing low yields. The soil is predominantly Laurens-Cabrières sandstone schist — a type related to the classic Faugères hill soils — with a fragile, slightly acidic structure that, when matched with adapted cultivation methods, delivers excellent balance to the vines. Mourvèdre is trained in Double Cordon de Royat, while Grenache is pruned in the traditional gobelet style.
The 2019 vintage began with unseasonably heavy rains in October and November 2018, followed by a rather dry and mild winter from February onwards. The summer was extremely hot, with a record temperature of 46°C on June 28th, and remained very dry through the start of harvest. The harvest required careful control during extraction, while the Grenache — well adapted to the Mediterranean climate — resisted well. Welcome rains on September 18–20 allowed the Mourvèdre to ripen evenly.
