In 2017, with the help of Sandhi’s very own Sashi Moorman, William Hines & Family planted two vineyards that straddle Highway 246 in the Sta. Rita Hills… About midway along Highway 246 in the Sta. Rita Hills sits the William Hines Estate Vineyard at Mail Road. Here the focus is Chardonnay, specifically Dijon clones on a steep, north-facing slope with conditions advantageous to growing this grape - namely limited sunlight and poor, well-draining soils.

This release also welcomes the first vintages of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the William Hines Vineyard in the northern corridor of the Sta. Rita Hills. With a microclimate and soil profile disparate from the vineyards we have long enjoyed on Santa Rosa Road, the Chardonnay here shows a limpid color and equal clarity and precision in Honeycrisp apple, lemon meringue, jasmine and fresh cinnamon butter. The palate leans further into fruit and flower primacy, as soft texture balances a snappy, tart edge with quite the finish. A delicious debut for William Hines Vineyard Chardonnay.
