The Sealift Vineyard is in the extreme and rugged Annapolis area of the “True Sonoma Coast”, just one mountain ridge away from the Pacific Ocean. This steeply sloped vineyard rests at an elevation between 700 – 1,200 feet. The soil is composed primarily of Goldridge sandy loam and ancient seashells, providing excellent drainage and vine vigor control. This unique Pinot Noir was sourced from four different blocks with varying elevations, exposures, microclimates and clonal material.

The growing season consisted of minimal winter rains followed by a warm April suitable for budbreak. The heat of summer brought the grapes to optimal ripeness with harvest beginning at our Sealift Vineyard on August 27th and lasting until September 20th. Intentional picking decisions helped to balance the Pinot Noir with textural weight and energetic, crystalline acidity.

Grapes were picked and sorted by hand and pressed at 30% whole cluster. Native fermentation took place in individual 2-ton batches in open top fermenters for about 12 days. The wine was aged in 30% new German oak barriques for 12 months and spent 6 months in stainless steel prior to bottling. Unfined and unfiltered. An elegant vintage, this Pinot Noir is grown thoughtfully in the extreme conditions along the Sonoma Coast. A perfumed nose of tart cherry, red currant and spices. The palate has lively acidity and beautifully integrated tannins. The oak balances out the fresh red fruits and concentrated black berry compote with a lingering finish of subtle forest floor. A timeless wine that will age gracefully for the next 10+ years.
