La Réserve d’Angludet is the second wine of the Château d’Angludet. It comes from the same 34 Ha of vines that counts Angludet’s vineyard. There are no main differences in the way the vines are cultivated and the vinification methods between Angludet and Reserve d’Angludet. The distinction between the wine which will make the Château Angludet and La Réserve d’Angludet is only done after the harvest. A series of thorough tastings carried out by Ben Sichel determines the final distinction.
A second wine is a term for a premium wine made by an estate that is second only to its Grand Vin. These wines are produced from the same vineyards as the Grand Vin but at a more accessible price and can be a great introduction to their older sibling. In the vineyard and winery, these wines generally receive the same treatment as the Grand Vin however, the overall blend and maturation are different. This estate is one of the oldest in Margaux and has had a chequered history. The Sichel family purchased the estate in 1961 and has revived the fortunes of this pretty lakeside chateau. The combination of sand and gravel soils found in this area of southern Margaux are ideal to support both Cabernet Sauvignon and a high proportion of Merlot.
La Reserve d’Angludet is made from the same vineyards and with the same dedication as Chateau Angludet itself. The strict selection in the vineyard and from cask ensures the finished wine shares the same finesse, complexity, and elegance of a fine Margaux. Assertive but ripe tannins ensure Reserve d`Angludet can be enjoyed when young but will also allow further maturation. This is why today more than ever, La Réserve d’Angludet offers the best quality for the price in the entire Margaux appellation, offering dazzling aromatic expression and gentle extract, which is sustained yet delicate.
The result of a legendary year, this wine is the expression of its exceptional terroir – elegant and charming! Deeply colored, still deep purple at the rim, with a richly layered bouquet that marries jammy fruit – blackcurrant and blackberry –with the toasty, vanilla notes of the barrel. The dense, warming palate is refined throughout, with an elegant tannic structure resulting from its distinguished terroir, as well as from a perfectly controlled winemaking process. Ready for drinking from 2019; a great match for a fine cut of grilled meat or a well-garnished cheese board, but whatever the case over any informal meal.
