The Lopez Vineyard is a tiny, organically farmed (CCOF certified since 2013) site of less than one acre (approximately 30 rows, ~0.7 acres) in east Oakville on the lower hills of the Vaca Mountains. Established 1989 (replanted 2000), it features iron-rich volcanic/red soils with rocks in a premium neighborhood near Dalla Valle, Rudd, and others. Western-facing slopes provide natural ripeness.
Deep ruby and opaque in the glass. Bouquet offers a union of red and dark fruits (plum, dark cherry, mulberry) with barrel spices, licorice, dried sage, rosemary, tobacco, cedar, and dark olive. Palate is generous with dark plum, blackberry, mulberry, dark cherry, and chocolate notes. Plush yet bright with gravelly, chalky tannins and a long finish.
