Located north of Yountville in the Oakville AVA, Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper was originally part of land owned by George C. Yount. Purchased by Charles Hopper and given to his daughter Missouri in 1877. Clones 4 and 337, rootstock 101-14 and 3309.
The 2019 growing season began with abundant rainfall and soil moisture, followed by a long, warm summer with few extreme heat events. Cool, foggy mornings and a mild finish preserved purity and elegance with abundant hang time, yielding average to slightly below-average crops with bright acidity, ample texture, great color, structure, and soft tannins.
Soft and lengthy, full-bodied yet well-balanced with elegant structure. Purity and freshness radiate from supple tannins and integrated oak. Aromas of violet, sandalwood, cedar, and cigar box. Palate layers of cherry, black currant, and blackberry with plum cake, tobacco, molasses, and licorice spice.
