Christian Moueix first discovered the Napanook Vineyard in Yountville in 1981 and began producing Dominus from this historic estate in 1983. The vineyard is dry farmed, organically certified, and exclusively estate-bottled — a rare designation. Dry farming is the foundation of the estate’s viticultural approach, motivating vines to grow deep roots that connect them to underground water and minerals, producing balanced vines with a deep connection to the land and complex wines expressing their terroir.

The 2023 growing season unfolded at a moderate pace, shaped by generous rainfall, mild spring temperatures, and a later-than-usual harvest that rewarded patience. Total rainfall from July 2022 through June 2023 reached 51 inches — well above the historical average of 31 inches — replenishing soils and providing ample water reserves. Veraison occurred roughly two weeks later than average, and the extended growing cycle allowed for even, gradual ripening and the development of depth and balance. An abundant harvest took place between October 7 and 18 under favorable weather conditions.
