2020 was a high-quality but low-quantity vintage due to mild/wet spring leading to early flowering, hot/dry summer with over 50 days of drought, mildew pressure, hail, and heat spikes concentrating fruit. Harvest began September 10.
The vineyards cover diverse terroirs with gravelly soils to the west (deeper gravel seams on sand), clay-influenced to the east, and thinner, poorer soils to the north over limestone bedrock from Oligocene/Miocene eras. Red vines planted primarily Cabernet Sauvignon on gravel, Merlot on clay.
A feeling of wild earthy fruit with strong alpine and hedgerow berries; fully concentrated with warm spiced oak providing sweetness; high muscle rewarding patience and bottle aging. Aromas of rich cherries, cassis, burning embers, violets, dark chocolate; medium to full-bodied, rich, fleshy, ripe, layered.
