The 2023 growing season was wet, cool, and long. With a cold spring, delayed budbreak, and only rare toasty days in July, our ’23 zin pick extended into October, a first for us at the Glocker Turner Ranch. Zin sets and ripens unevenly, and ’23 was no exception. Throughout the growing season, I noted both big, juicy clusters and others with significant millerandage. 2023’s slow ripening was stellar for color, and the ’23 showcases a stunning, rich hue. This wine will cellar beautifully.

We hand harvested the fruit for our 2023 Rockpile Zinfandel on 10/6/23, which landed 5 weeks (!!!) later than our ’22 pick. We hand-sorted and de-stemmed the grapes to 100% whole berry the same day. Our yield measured 3.2 tons in aggregate. The truck sample yielded the following (near perfect). Dense and lush with black and blue fruit, star anise, nutmeg, and milk chocolate, the 2023 RP zin is full-bodied and built to age. The palate displays mouth-coating weight with rich fruit, chewy tannins, and a long finish. With a frisson of acidity to excite your salivary glands, this zin is ready to partner with a juicy sirloin or a silky bowl of Bolognese. Cellar-worthy and sure to be a cold weather favorite.
