Sangiacomo Vineyard has been Sojourn Cellars’ flagship Pinot Noir wine since 2004. The vineyard is situated on Roberts Road at the western base of Sonoma Mountain, developed in an old creek bed. Sojourn sources fruit from five distinct blocks; the core clone 115 block was originally planted in 1998 on 101-14 rootstock and forms the base of the wine each vintage. Portions of Swan and Mt. Eden clones are blended to add complexity and structural nuances. Cool ocean breezes and Petaluma Gap fog keep the heat in check and allow a long hang time while retaining natural acidity.
A warm 2022 summer brought one of the earliest harvests on record on the Sonoma Coast, with a September heat wave influencing picking decisions. Cooler pockets of the Sonoma Coast fared well through the heat, and the resulting wines offer depth and finesse. Yields were minuscule, with many vineyards breaking records on the low side for cluster weights, producing wines with concentrated flavors, tension, and length. The 2022 Sangiacomo Vineyard Pinot Noir has a foundation of Mt. Eden and 115 clones, with Swan clone blended in to add rich fruit and silky texture; each clone was fermented and aged separately.
The 2022 Sangiacomo Vineyard Pinot Noir offers alluring red fruit aromas with hints of forest floor. On the palate, it delivers an intriguing blend of dark red fruits and forest floor with the signature Sangiacomo creamy texture. This vintage offers excellent acidity with silky tannins that are enjoyable now yet will age well in the cellar.
