Mocenni estate is just north of Siena, in the Chianti Classico production area of Vagliagli. Mocenni, founded in 1067, was initially a fortress for Siena’s defense. Dedicated to Calidonia Sergardi, who married Girolamo Bindi, creating the indissoluble union between the two families. This wine is a sign of gratitude to the family’s past. It is also an excellent expression of Mocenni’s terroir and of Chianti Classico Riserva.
Flowering was good and homogenous thanks to the absence of rain and good temperatures; also the fruit-set was good with no presence of millerandage. Harvest 2019 was early October with a perfect ripeness and excellent quality.Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats where maceration lasts about 18/20 days. The wine is then transferred into French oak barrels where malolactic fermentation takes place and is aged for approximately 18 months. Bottled wine then remains stored in the cellar for further refinement.
After careful and meticulous selection of the bunches, the hand-picked grapes are destemmed and gently pressed. Fermentation of the Sangiovese grapes took place in stainless steel fermenters, where maceration lasted approximately 18-20 days at a controlled temperature of 28-30°C. Immediately following alcoholic fermentation, the wine was transferred to 42hl oak barrels and subsequently aged in bottle at the winery. Intense ruby red color. Fruity and floral notes blend with spicy and incense notes. Soft, elegant, and well-structured. Complexity, grace, and velvety tannins are the result of a careful selection of Sangiovese grapes grown in soil rich in Galestro and Alberese. The wine is vibrant with a lingering finish. It is an excellent expression of the Mocenni terroir and Chianti Classico Riserva.
