The Clos de la Roche Grand Cru lies in Morey-Saint-Denis, at the northern end of the village’s four grand cru vineyards and widely regarded as the finest of the quartet. Pousse d’Or’s estate vines are found across the lieu-dits ‘Clos de la Roche,’ ‘Les Mochamps,’ and ‘Monts Luisants’ in this large, east-facing grand cru. Soils are thin and rocky, with a subsoil of pure limestone — a hallmark terroir that drives the wine’s signature minerality, structure, and depth. The domaine, which has farmed biodynamically since 2014 and has been Demeter-certified since 2018, tends these vines with meticulous attention across all its grand cru holdings.

The 2023 growing season in Burgundy was characterized as hot and sunny, marked by two notable heat waves — one in late July and another lasting more than ten days at the end of August into early September. Despite the warmth, the vintage has been widely praised for its energetic freshness, ripe fruit, and excellent balance, with critics drawing favorable comparisons to the acclaimed 1999 vintage. Grand crus across Morey-Saint-Denis performed particularly well, and the 2023 Pousse d’Or Clos de la Roche earned an average critic score of 94 points.

Expressive and complex on the nose, with aromas of black and red fruits, truffle, autumn leaves, and earth. Deep and structured on the palate, this is a wine that demands patience — it is built for the cellar and rewards those who wait. The combination of Clos de la Roche’s limestone-driven terroir and the domaine’s gravity-fed, unfined and unfiltered approach results in a wine of striking purity, mineral drive, and impressive length.
