Nina’s cuvée is known for being a little more delicate with softer tannins than her counter part, Captain Joe (Nina’s husband). Don’t let that fool you. She will still lay down the law if need be. A majority of the grapes in this wine are sourced from Block 1 Heritage Vineyard. This site is a well-drained, alluvial plain with deposits of gravel and rock that contribute to the consistent production of outstanding Petite Sirah grapes year after year. The vineyard is planted in 4’ x 8’ rows of head-trained vines, and its exposure to a consistently sunny climate, followed by the cooling maritime influences of the Pacific Ocean, helps cultivate the distinctive flavor, complexity, and beautifully balanced acidity that are hallmarks of our Petite Sirah wines.

The growing season was consistent and mild. Signs pointed to an early harvest until a late August/ early September heat wave pushed ripening in some blocks, resulting in a quickened harvest pace. But September rain brought a sigh of relief, refreshing the vines and allowing more hang time for the remaining grapes. Overall, the result was concentrated and flavorful fruit, creating great acid balance. Notes of fresh-baked blueberry pie, cinnamon, and toasted marshmallow over graham cracker crust leap from the glass. Silky tannins and warm cardamom spice enhance the lush fruit flavors, leading to a smooth, lingering finish.
