The Ardante is sourced from Yates Family Vineyard, situated near the top of Mount Veeder. Winemaker Thomas Bougetz does not simply purchase grapes from vineyard owners; he leases specific blocks of vines within vineyards so he can maintain direct control over irrigation, canopy management, and harvest decisions. The high elevation of the site imparts the mountain fruit characteristics — deep color, concentrated black fruit, and a firm tannic structure — that define the Ardante across every vintage.

The 2022 growing season started early, with bud break occurring approximately two weeks earlier than normal. It was the third drought year in a row, with well levels well below average. The summer saw only a couple of heat spikes in June, leading into a consistent, warm August. The combination of an early bud break and a steady growing phase allowed the fruit at Yates Family Vineyard on Mount Veeder to reach full maturity before harvest.

Showing mountain fruit characteristics, this wine is deep purple/ruby in color, with black fruits filling the nose. Full-bodied, with scores of blackberries and black cherry flavors underpinned by a spice box base. A bit of patience is rewarded, as a few years of aging help tame the tannic edge that drapes the mouth-coating fresh black fruits.
